31 October 2020 Back in the garage for a few hours. First off I did a bit more tidying up to free up space around the car. I'm using plastic crates with lids to store the smaller items, and write the contents on the outside with a chinagraph pencil. I'm trying to remember to store the nuts and bolts for those parts in small envelopes in the same boxes. This is my fuel filter – the connection on the right is fuel in from the tanl, the left is out. The junction in the outlet pipe splits between the fuel feed to the injectors and the return to the tank where the fuel pressure regulator is. Back to the spanners, underneath the car I removed the remaining underbody covers and loosened off the rearmost front subframe mounts. I extracted the plastic pipe clips for the fuel and brake pipes that run under the car. These can be reused on the new car for the same purpose. I checked that I could undo all the strut top mounting bolts and also loosened off the central spring compression nuts. I undid the front and rear subframe mounting bolts and replaced them in turn. They are very tight and several of them are on very long threads so I made sure to fully unwind them, lubricate and replace them. Where I could get an electric impact wrench in, I used that, elsewhere I used a long breaker bar and socket to start them and then a normal ratchet to undo them all the way. Hopefully, when I'm lifting the body I won't be struggling to undo them when I don't have easy access. I put the wheels back on and dropped the car down, then I bolted my engine hoist load leveller to a couple of the seat mounting points, I will need some longer chains and straps to help balance the bodyshell. Just before the body lift I will remove the remaining subframe bolts, the weight of the car will keep the subframes in place while I roll the car out. Next stage should be the body lift which will be a big milestone.
